A Tough Tablet to Swallow

We have a tablet now.  Let’s count, shall we?  Two desktops, one laptop, one netbook, two smartphones and now a tablet.  The cat doesn’t know how to use any of them but not for lack of trying.

Choosing a model and brand is difficult.  iPads are extremely popular and there are dozens of other options made by Samsung, Microsoft and others.  Media reports would have you believe iPad is the best but it really depends on what you want to do with it.  We went with Lenovo which is a Microsoft product.  One advantage it has is a USB port so you can pop in a memory stick.  This one also happened to be on a wickedly good sale.

So we bought a special cord to attach the tablet to our big-screen TV so we could watch Netflix movies and specials on television instead of on the wee laptop screen.  Brilliant, right?  The kid in the store was positively glowing with anticipation of the joy he was bringing these two older farts.  The trouble is, it didn’t work. It needed a downloaded doohickey first.  We finally figured that out and after some time, we got it going.  But it won’t play on the big TV because the television was made prior to the popularity of tablets and you need to get the two things talking to each other.  This is beyond our capabilities.  Even google is letting us down.  Oh, we’ll get it eventually but I would like to slap the acne off that grinning kid who made it sound like the two would almost configure themselves.

Bottom line: we watched a Tim Allen comedy on Netflix on Saturday night on the little laptop screen.  Thanks technology!
