What I’ve Learned So Far

The Naked Truth has been out for about a month and a half.  In that time I’ve learned a lot about this new world of ebooks and how to navigate through it.  And I’m pleased to say that as a first-timer, I’m doing alright.

When you offer an ebook for sale you tell the seller – Kobo, Kindle – how much of the book you’re willing to offer as a free preview. I figure a couple of chapters is enough but would you believe that several of the previews I’ve downloaded contain only the table of contents?  Some writers are afraid to give anything away but that’s ridiculous. One preview I downloaded about real-life ambulance attendant stories contained only the table of contents and several warnings about how graphic the details would be. And then… nothing but a window popping up asking me to buy the book. No thanks!

Kobo readers have been much more likely to buy The Naked Truth.  In fact Kobo accounts for more than half of all sales with Kindle and the PDF evenly split to make up the rest.

People have been great about sending me emails to tell me how much they liked the book but getting them to put reviews up on the seller’s sites is a challenge.  One to one seems to be more comfortable than leaving it out there for all to see.  I suppose I need rabid book reviewers to read it.  That’s a challenge too!

The question everybody asks is, what are you working on now?  And the answer is, happily, nothing!  This is the busy season for my biggest voice-work clients and when they call I drop everything and wring myself out in front of a microphone.  I don’t know what’s next.  I might adopt a cat, actually.  That’s under serious consideration.  The next project will reveal itself, all in good time.
