Dot Dot Dot

I don’t know about you but I don’t exactly wait breathless for the fall fashion trend reports.  Still, when fashion media start telling us what we should wear, it’s hard not to notice, especially if they’re all saying the same thing.  Polka-dots.

They are everywhere.  I own a black top with white polka-dots but that’s the extent of my foray into the pattern that’s showing this fall on everything from T-shirts to neckties to shoes. What’s the deal with the polka-dots? I saw a fall jacket with dots so big it looked like a game of Twister with sleeves. A Joe Fresh T-shirt had so many tiny dots it looked like one of those pictures that you stare at for a while until a “hidden” image appears. A home decor company I follow on Facebook put out its array of items to take cues from this fall and every single one of them was dotted.  I have a circle sickness, meaning I like things that are round or have circles on them, but this is ridiculous.

Polka-dots were everywhere this summer and now they’re taking over the autumn. You’re not seeing spots, it’s just what fashionistas have decided is “in”. Which means we can all safely ignore it and go back to whatever we prefer.  After a game of Twister in the coat department.

  1. There are definitely times, when I’m thankful that I can’t be subjected to the visual aspects of today’s fashion whims, and this fall would appear to be one of those occasions.

  2. … upon second thought, maybe there not actually polka-dots, maybe its actually braille.

Come here honey, stand a little closer, let me read your dots!

  3. For me, they should be called “polka don’ts”. Minnie Mouse may be the only one I think looks good in them; I don’t think even Princess Di was able to pull them off (and there are plenty of pics of outfits where she tried.) But that’s just IMHO and fashion is all about personal taste, I suppose…

    1. Exactly. Which is why I think it’s so silly that polka dots are being shown on everything by everybody for the fall. In or out, up or down, low or high – wear what you think looks good and tell the rest to dot off.
