Retail Therapy

Our riding lawn mower recently went kaput.   It was an older model, given to us by a family friend, and had seen many better days.  It owed us nothing and that’s exactly what it ultimately decided to give in return!

Our property is 255′ deep so hand-mowing is simply not a long-term option. So Derek did a lot of research on riding mowers via the Internet.  He looked at new ones, used ones and every brand available.  Finally he settled on either a certain John Deere from Home Depot or a certain Craftsman from Sears.  Because Sears gives valuable points I voted for Sears and off we went on Sunday.

The one he wanted was on the store floor.  We mused that it seemed silly to put all of the heavy stuff up on the second floor but hey, it’s their store.  The saleswoman actually said she needed to go check with a manager because it was the last one in stock (“we don’t have a warehouse for these things”) and she wasn’t sure if she could let it go.

I knew the answer would be yes.  It’s not often a retailer gets someone walking in saying they want to buy one of the biggest ticket items in the store.  So when they do you sell it.  You just do.  And they did.  I offered to ride it down the escalator and she expressed horror.  Sense of humour, not a job requirement.

Derek about to climb onto his new red lawn tractor and cut the very tall grass

The mower is home and cut the lawns, front and back, in record time.   It starts when it’s supposed to and it makes the grass its bitch!   I say it qualifies as a tractor and the yard is as big as a (very) small field so, in a sense we are farmers.  Grass farmers.  The legal kind.

  1. You are making me a little jealous. We got to the cottage today only to see our Shopvac floating wheels up next to the dock. Not sure how it got there, but…it sucks. And not in a good way. Enjoy your “tractor” and may IT never go wheels up!
