The Last Word on My Rogers Email…Until the Lawsuit

Finally sick of myself being obsessed with this ongoing saga, I tweeted yesterday that the drama was nearing its end.  That’s true, sort of.

I’m still not able to log in to the email account through the login page.  But as I was looking for something else on the web at work, an old link showed up. Whatever I typed in the address bar was close to the first few letters of this link so it came up as an option – you know how that happens?  So I thought, let’s just click on that for giggles.  And it got me in.  In to where my 1100 contacts lay and 191 unread emails sat, ignored. It was the strangest damn thing.

With trembling hands I converted my contacts into a file, set the email up to forward everything to my gmail account and then, when time allowed, I worked my way through the unread emails.  I didn’t dare close the browser or leave the page!  I even emailed the old link to myself.  I was able to retrieve everything important and I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon arranging my contacts in gmail, eliminating duplicates, and making sure my iPhone had everything my desktop had.

Meantime, Rogers is still working on my login problems.  Technically I can’t get “in” but I found this weird way around.  I should note that I had already tried a few old bookmarks and pages in my early attempts to bypass whatever the heck was going on and none of them worked.  Why this one does is a reason that’s over my head.  Several people at Rogers, in customer service, tech support and the higher-level tech experts, have tried to get me access and failed.  I guess no one thought of sneaking in the back door.  It was an ugly week, that’s for sure.  On Thursday afternoon I had a 30 minute conversation with a manager in the “complaint escalation department” during which I sobbed through the whole thing.  Softly, mind you, no snorting or running out of breath but still, I sobbed. I have backed up everything and backed up my back-ups, duplicated my duplicates, so this can never, ever happen to me again.

  1. Saw your Tweet yesterday regarding the progress on accessing your MIA E mail. However your explanation today, if I were your tech support person has in fact narrowed down where the problem is occurring, given that you can access your account via a previous method/link. Actually, not to make light of your frustration, these are the type of problems I use to love to resolve, a real brain teaser. I suspect its as simple as a recent change to a logon script.

    1. It’s 4 pm on Saturday and I just tried again to log in. This time, for the first time, it flashes like it’s going to work for a second before it goes back to the login page. Meanwhile I haven’t heard a peep from the company. I suppose they would tell me they are still “working on it”. Fortunately, I no longer need to know…or care.

  2. This am I am working on partner’s computer, same one I accessed my email on last evening as mine is in for service, and while at first I could read and thought I could reply but ‘error’ in sending report.
Tried to address that by reloading and now can only access the preview of my mail and do nothing else.
If I try to log in it comes up 404 page not available
