So Much to be Thankful For on my Birthday

Our pal Peter Mennie is a really great magician but even he can’t turn a milk frothing machine into a sweet pair of boots!

I asked for a milk frother for my birthday.  It’s a simple little probe-like thing that you poke into a container of milk and it froths it up so you can make a latte out of a cup of coffee.  Derek got me one made by Bodum and it’s perfect.  But I guess it didn’t look substantial enough so he also bought a milk frothing machine worth about 10 times the price of the Bodum.  It was wonderful but also overkill.  We don’t have the counter space and I don’t plan to froth at that level.  So I took it back and turned it into a sweet pair of knee-high boots!  In summary, I got the gift I wanted AND boots to boot.  Sweet!

We went for a bike ride and had a wonderful, leisurely day followed by dinner at the restaurant of my choice, Michael’s on the Thames here in London.  It’s a very nice place, not in our regular rotation.  It’s owned by a man who used to own the three Sam The Record Man locations in London. I worked for him before I was hired on at CKSL here back in the day.  In fact, the only other time I’d been to the restaurant was as his guest, many years ago.   Dinner was wonderful.  And I was seranaded and given some chocolate-covered strawberries in celebration.

Me holding a plate with chocolate strawberries and "congratulations" written in chocolate!

What a lovely day and night.  And if you detect the scent of garlic just from visiting this page, it’s from the sensational Caesar salad that was made fresh at our table.  It’s not hard to figure out why they make it “for two”.   It was a wonderful experience and capped off an excellent birthday.  And near the end of the evening Derek invented a unique way for me to say my age:  I’m thirty-nineteen!

  1. Happy Birthday Lisa…love your blog! I have been looking for a milk frother but didn’t know which one worked well. Which Bodum did your hubby buy you? Battery operated?? In a container?? Any additional info will be welcomed. Have a great Thanksgiving weekend Lisa!

    1. Hi Susan – it is battery operated. It comes in a box and is about $15 bucks. He bought it at Sears so I assume it’s available wherever Bodum products are sold! Thanks for reading my nutty little collection of mind droppings. 🙂

  2. I love your life! Happy birthday, and yes… that is a perfect way to tell people your age! 🙂
